Albert and Otto – Alpha Demo

albert and otto

Albert and Otto is a beautiful cinematic platformer, packed with inventive physics based puzzles, that follows a boy and his magic red bunny who appears to be on a quest to save his love, but turns out to be something a whole lot darker.

Being a silhouetted puzzle platformer that sees you controlling a young boy in a treacherous world, comparisons to Limbo are easily made.  There’s a lot more going on in Albert & Otto though.   For starters, you’re armed with a nifty little gun, which you can use to defend yourself against enemies and slaughter defenseless sheep.

You also have a very handy little companion in the form of a little red toy bunny.  This bunny is integral to most of the puzzles as you unlock more powers for it – whether you’re just using it as a weight for a pressure switch or using it’s telekenetic powers to fire a burning sheep at a tree (sheep get a pretty raw deal in Albert and Otto).

As with the afore mentioned Limbo, the visual design of Albert and Otto is simultaneously beautiful and sinister.  Tellingly, for a game which hints at a much darker storyline than ‘save the damsel in distress’, in the 20 minute Alpha Demo, after traversing the initial forest area, you’ll then enter an area which appears to be a WWII concentration camp.   With it’s stark white world and dark as night storyline, Albert and Otto is a beautifully sinister puzzle platformer that’s destined for great things.
