Dead Cells is a gorgeous new roguelike metroidvania (or roguevania if you prefer) with Dark Souls-ian combat and the ever looming threat of permadeath as you explore an ever changing castle, packed with deadly enemies, random characters, secrets and cool loot.
Drawing inspiration from Castlevania and Dark Souls, Dead Cells offers sprawling procedurally generated castles, equipment that unlocks new routes and challenging skill based combat with pattern based boss fights and powerful minions. In the game players will be able to take multiple routes through the castle, blending procedural generation with innovative coding to give players a procedurally generated world that still has a meticulously hand crafted feel.
As in Dark Souls, the stakes are high for every clash and it will certainly punish you for your mistakes. Danger lurks around every corner and beating the game will be no walk in the park. The devs promise an experience that will be tough but fair though and although death really does mean game over in Dead Cells, it will also unlock new paths to explore on your next attempt.
It’s a fantastic looking game with super slick animation, beautiful artwork and stylish character design. Beating this ever-changing castle may be a real challenge, but exploring its architecture, beating its bosses and discovering its many secrets is going to be an absolute delight.
