Grimoire: Manastorm is a fast paced multiplayer multiplayer arena class based FPS that draws inspiration from classic shooters like Team Fortress 2 and Unreal Tournament, but replaces guns with magic as powerful wizards face off against each other in arcane warfare.

We first featured Grimoire: Manastorm back in 2014 and it’s come a long way since then considering the small team of devs that are working on it. It features six unique wizard classes that can wield four primary spells and two special abilities at a time. Unless you’ve purchased the DLC character packs or unlocked characters using the Arcane Points (that you earn through play) then two wizard classes will be available to select at a time, with the available wizards being switched out every few weeks. Your loadout of primary spells can be swapped out with eight new unlockable spells and your two special abilities (such as short range teleportation or kinetic blasts) can be selected from a shared pool of abilities that all the classes have in common.

Grimoire: Manastorm does feature a single player survival mode that sees you battling hordes of monsters – but it’s really just handy for target practice for the multiplayer action. Multiplayer features fast paced wizardly combat in Conquest and Free-For-All modes with up to 16 players doing battle in varied arenas with destructible environments. It’s great fun when you have a full server of wizards doing battle, with fireballs, meteors and other arcane projectiles hurtling through the air.

Grimoire: Manastorm is still in Alpha, so it does have a few rough edges graphically, but it’s great fun unleashing your inner wizard, especially when you have a big group of players doing battle at once, and the devs are continually updating it with new features. Wizardy multiplayer warfare well worth checking out.

Important Note: The default resolution on first loading up Grimoire: Manastorm is 720p (which looks awful on a 1080p monitor). To change the resolution you’ll need to type the new resolution in the options menu (there’s no drop down menu). FYI if you want to change to 1080p the resolution values you need to type in the boxes are 1920 and 1080 respectively.
