Skara: The Blade Remains is a gorgeous looking Unreal Engine 4-fuelled arena fighter currently in Early Access on Steam.
Choose your warrior from a selection of three very muscular and equally threatening characters – Kharn, the almost Orc-like brute, who’s biceps are only beaten in size by his mighty hammer, Celea, a Greek gladiator-a-like with a impressively long spear, and Shinse the dagger-wielding warrior-princess and by far the most agile of the group.
From here players are thrown directly into battle, in one on one, free for all, or team death match modes. With a heavy focus on competitive online play and the opportunity for up to 16 players to battle it out at the same time, Skara: The Blade Remains features weapon-based combat that is not only brutal and chaotic, but thanks to the interactive environments you’ll be fighting in, also wicked good fun. Find yourself struggling with those two guys teaming up on you, but conveniently standing on a metal grate over a lava pit? No problem, hit the levers strategically placed nearby to drop them both headfirst into a scolding hot bath. Just be sure to avoid them when they respawn.
Characters level up over time, with new skills and abilities unlocked frequently, and plenty of customisation options available for your combatant, sure to keep the action fresh as you work your way to the top of the leader boards. Skara – The Blade Remains is an ambitious indie title, with lofty plans for the future and genuinely unique gameplay directly influenced by the fans already playing the game. If close-quarters gladiatorial combat is your thing, or even just AAA-looking multiplayer games, Skara is definitely worth keeping on your radar as the developers continue to add to and improve what is already a very promising start to a great new free to play title.
Note: Skara The Blade Remains is still early in development and isn’t fully optimised so may not run on older PC’s. You can find a full list of the required system requirements on the Steam page.
