The Cave of Wonders, a charming point and click made for the Ludum Dare 36, has you using a mysterious portal to discover technologies from the past, present, and future.
You have woken up in a strange cave. After discovering how to light up this place, you will find there are various items dotted around, as well as a giant stone portal in the center of this room. This portal will become the key to figuring out how to get out of here – as you can plug different gems into the machine and summon items from different parts of time.
These gems are quite easy to find at first, but soon require some thought and different items to get them. You will be able to go to two other areas of the cave, exploring all of the different objects on each level. Below you is a simple level of natural things; waterfalls and rocks. Above you is a brightly lit up dorm-like area. You need to figure out how to get to these levels and then collect the objects and gems there to continue. Once you have collected all of the gems for the portal, summoned all of the items, and figured out what to do with the last item, you will learn a bit about the different technologies you have discovered along the way.
The Cave of Wonders is very well made, with charming visuals, inventive puzzle design and a powerful ending with a great message about the inventions and creations you’ve used. You won’t regret venturing into this cave of wonders.
