1-1 is a fun little game that reimagines level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros in some very different ways – from a text adventure to a battle royale parody!
Created for the Nordic Game Jam 2019, 1-1 sees you playing through the first part of Super Mario Bros level 1-1 in ten very different ways. All you have to do in most of the versions is to kill the first Goomba, but you do that in very different ways depending on what type of game you’re playing – so in the text adventure you’ll have t type “JUMP”, or in the Doom-style FPS version you’ll have to shoot them.
It’s a very short game, but it’s a fun concept and it’s great experiencing one of gaming’s most iconic levels in so many different ways. It would be nice to see some of them expanded on so that you could play through the entirety of level 1-1 in each mode but it’s understandable that the devs couldn’t do that within the time restraints of the jam. Well worth checking out for 10 fun twists on a classic.
