Alwa’s Awakening, the excellent 8-bit styled metroidvania adventure, is coming to the NES and you can sign up now to Beta test it!
The original Alwa’s Awakening was a charming NES styled fantasy metroidvania that was very well received in 2017 when it was first released. It follows the story of Zoe, a young heroine from another world who attempts to bring peace to the land of Alwa. It’s a good old fashioned metroidvania with excellent pixel artwork, creative puzzles and challenging action platforming gameplay.
The retro 8-bit styled visuals were a real highlight of the original and made it really feel like a classic NES game. Now developer Elden Pixels is going one step further and turning into a full NES game! Before shifting to modern platforms Alwa’s Awakening did originally start as a NES homebrew game so it should be possible, but it’ll still take a lot of work to squeeze it back into a functioning NES ROM.
It’s a very cool project that could deliver another truly great NES game almost four decades after the console was originally released. Sign up for the Beta to help bring it to life (you’ll need a NES emulator such as Mesen or RetroArch).
