Apocryph is a wonderfully brutal Hexen inspired old school shooter set in a dark fantasy world packed with secrets, hidden passages and masses of bloodthirsty demons lying in ambush.
Apocryph draws inspiration from the likes of Hexen, Painkiller, Heretic and Strife to deliver an unrelenting and ridiculously violent fantasy shooter in which your weapons can literally rip enemies to pieces. In the game you take on the role of the Arbiter, a once high ranking part of the Xilai religious hierarchy, who has long since been banished from your homeland. After many years you return to find that it has been overrun by demonic forces – you must lay waste to them, discover the source of the desolation and put an end to it.
It’s a fun game with fast paced run and gun gameplay, cool weaponry, lots of gore and cleverly designed levels that are packed full of secrets and hidden ambushes. The current build consists of one large level and can be completed in around 10 minutes, but it’ll take a lot longer than that to discover all its secrets. It’s not the most sophisticated of shooters, but it’s perfect for a bit of blood splattered old school demon slaying uber violence!
