ARK: Survival Of The Fittest is a first and third person multiplayer online survival arena in which up to 72 players face off against each other in a Hunger Games-style fight for survival in a world full of dinosaurs and mythical creatures (including dragons and giant apes).
ARK: Survival Of The Fittest is a clever spin-off of ARK: Survival Evolved – a very popular dino-filled sandbox survival sandbox game we covered a while back. Survival of the Fittest offers a more intense, combat-orientated eSports focused experience than Survival Evolved, creating a game players can easily dip in and out of for some spectacular dino multiplayer action.
Players can form tribes of up to six and play in ranked and unranked matches on a variety of game lengths and map sizes, with dedicated eSport rankings, matchmaking and tournament features. After starting the game in a neutral staging area where players form alliances or talk trash each other, they are all beamed down to a Hunger Games-esque open section of the map, in the center of which is a cache of valuable items that players must decide to either make a dash for, or run for the safety of the woods. The stash in the center isn’t the only valuable resource though – there are plenty of dinosaurs and other strange creatures players can tame and utilize in combat. There are even mythical super creatures, such as the brood mother, the great ape and the dragon. It’s not possible to hide in the woods forever though – there’s an ever shrinking ring od death that forces players into close proximity before the end of the game.
ARK: Survival Of The Fittest is a very different beast from ARK: Survival Evolved, so fans of Survival Evolved may find the difference jarring initially, but even in these early stages of development it’s great fun and could easily go on to being more popular than it’s counterpart in the future. It’s the Hunger Games with dinosaurs, which is just as fun as it sounds, and any game in which you can tame a T-rex is a must play in our books!
