Beach Date – Game Jam Build

Beach Date is a strange, silly and surprisingly intimate little physics-based dating game in which you cover your date with sand, potato chips and wine while enjoying a sunset on the beach.

In Beach Date you use the mouse to control a single arm of a young woman who is sat with her date on the beach. You can use your arm to touch your phone to turn on some music, pour wine (everywhere), scatter potato chips and cover your date in sand. Cover your date with enough sand and your eyes will meet in a loving gaze and you’ll be able to move on to the next scene which takes later on in the day. At the end of the night the lovers leave and you’re left with a little mural of all the sand, potato chips and wine you scattered around the beach.

Your interactions are very limited, the physics are very buggy and the whole thing only takes just a few minutes to play through, but somehow Beach Date manages to convey a deep level of intimacy during its short, wordless playtime. The two lovers seem very much in love (or falling in love) and are totally absorbed in each other’s actions. It makes for a very interesting experience that delivers far more love and intimacy than most fully fledged dating simulators.
