Beleth – Game Jam Build

Beleth is a very freaky little occult shooter where you blast your way through an audio-reactive soundscape that reacts in real-time with the soundtrack.

Created for the PIGSquad Summer Slow Jam, Beleth is a ritualistic audio-reactive shoot ‘em up that’s full of occult imagery from the Goetia Démonok. It only takes around five minutes to play through, but it’s a remarkable experience which feels a little like you’re a nocturnal moth-like insect blasting your way through a creepy insect-filled environment. The entrancing particle-based visuals pulse and react to the soundtrack and the shots you land on your enemies all make eerie, sinister sounds and bell chimes.

The core shoot ‘em up gameplay is fairly simple, but the audio/visual design in Beleth is incredible. The mesmerising visuals, creepy ambient audio and freaky sound effects make for a very unique experience that equally frightens and fascinates. It’s one hell of a beautiful nightmare. Highly recommended.

  1. Dev here.

    Thanks for the kind review!

We are talking about how to continue development now.

if time permits we want to flesh it out into a complete game, but at the very least I want to get the core game play feeling a little better, and make a couple more levels the same length as what is currently in the game.

If anyone is interested I will be putting new builds on the itch page, and trying to post updates on twitter and instagram.

This will be my first attempt at actually trying to build a game beyond a game jam scale, and any feedback along the way would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
