Block Sport is a fun new futuristic multiplayer sports game that plays like a blend of Rocket League and Speedball as teams of players hack, slash and shoot the ball (and other players) around the arena, attempting to score as many goals as possible.
Block Sport is a fast paced futuristic ball sport built within the Hero Blocks platform (which we featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago). In the game you choose from a selection of different ‘Skeletoonian’ gladitorial robots (currently two available), each equipped with unique weapons and attacks that can be used to knock the ball around the arena and smash your opponents to pieces. Each Skeletoonian is equipped with a powerful protective combat suit that is made up of blocks that represent their health. As you play these blocks will get knocked off, eventually just leaving the spindly Skeletoonian beneath exposed and vulnerable.
Matches in Block Sport are fast paced affairs playable in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 multiplayer modes (with more modes and arenas still to come). It has a lot of similarities with Rocket League, with it’s futuristic arena and oversized game ball, but with a deep hit mechanic system and the ability to shoot and slice at the ball to allow for a bit more finesse than Psyonix’s release (and the fact that you can attack your opponents is fun too). It’s still early in development, but it’s shaping up to be a great bit of block rocking robo rumbling futuresport fun.
To join in the Block Sport Alpha simply join the Discord Group and contact one of the Admins. They will then make you an Alpha tester and give you access to the Alpha build. Please note that when you log into the game you can choose any username you like, but the password has to be ‘BlockStream’.
