Boreal Tenebrae Act 0: Sundowning is a lo-fi analog-horror adventure set in Tamarack Narrows, a dying prairie town where a centennial celebration turns catastrophic.
A standalone prequel enriches Boreal Tenebrae: Act 1, Act 0 lets you experience interwoven perspectives of Sarah Walker, her sister Bree, and trapped townsfolk as their lives collide during one surreal disaster. Inspired by late-90s analog media and fixed-angle exploration games, the game blends PSX-style visuals, CRT distortion, VHS noise, and infrared footage into narrative-driven exploration of liquor stores, empty streets, church basements, and industrial yards. Fixed-camera scenes, interactive dialogue, and surreal sequences create cinematic storytelling rooted in community decline, class struggle, and cosmic intrusion.
The demo takes around 30 minutes to play through and really impresses with its striking visuals and multi-character gameplay (which includes being able to play as a cat). It’s got a beautiful dream-like quality that quickly shifts to nightmare during the survival horror section. Highly recommended.
