Cendres is a stylish survival adventure that sees you making tough moral decisions as you attempt to help four wanderers survive in post-apocalyptic world that’s been ravaged by a volcanic disaster.
The bleak post-apocalyptic world of Cendres is a tough place to survive, with grey volcanic ash coating the ground and resources in short supply. You take control of a band of travellers who were long ago banned from the Dome, a giant shelter that houses the majority of the remaining survivors, but are now attempting to find their way back to the Dome to warn them of another upcoming cataclysmic event.
It’s a long road to the Dome, with branching pathways and lots of events such as encounters with other survivors, wolves and savages to deal with. During these encounters you’ll be able to make important decisions, such as facing the wolves or running away. Confrontation often leads to injury, but can often lead to more resources and you’ll be able to heal your crew a little with medication you find.
You have a lot of decisions to make along the way, but keeping your band of travellers alive is a priority. Each one has their own heat, hunger, thirst, energy and health levels. The heat, hunger thirst and energy levels are constantly dropping and can be topped up by starting a fire, eating food, drinking water and getting some sleep. Health will drop if you get injured in an encounter and it will also constantly drop if a party member’s heat, thirst, hunger or energy levels are too low. It goes without saying that you need to keep them warm, fed, watered and rested, but doing so when resources are so scarce can be tough – eventually you may have to sacrifice some party members so that others can survive long enough to reach the Dome.
It’s a great game that really impresses with its grim and foreboding atmosphere, interesting post-apocalyptic game world and intense survival gameplay where every decision you make can mean the difference between life and death. Will you make it to the Dome? Or will you perish in the ashes?
