ChainStaff is a brutal and beautiful Contra-esque heavy metal run ‘n gun action platformer where you’ve been infected by an alien bug that’s attached itself to your head.
With an art style reminiscent of the cult classic Heavy Metal movie, ChainStaff is a 2D action platformer that sees you fighting back against alien spores that have transformed the creatures of Earth into deadly uber-bugs. One such bug has attached itself to your head and has turned you into a supersoldier, giving you the power to control a weapon called the ChainStaff.
The ChainStaff can not only be hurled at enemies to inflict serious damage, but can also be used as a platform, a grapple, a shield and a jack. Along the way you’ll also encounter fellow soldiers in need of rescue. You can rescue them to earn new tech, or you can eat their brains to increase your firepower, or eat their hearts to increase your max health (though you may anger your fellow soldiers by doing so).
The ChainStaff demo features one large level, complete with giant boss fight. It’s a lot of fun, with fast paced run ‘n gun gameplay, a fantastic heavy metal/rock soundtrack and beautiful artwork. The various uses of the ChainStaff and the monster designs are very creative. Highly recommended.
