Circuits & Shields looks set to deliver a modern and evolved take of the MOBA genre, aiming to improve it without the use of cheap gimmicks, instead focusing on smarter design and superior gameplay.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago, Circuits & Shields is a Sci-Fi fantasy MOBA which aims to revolutionise the genre by redesigning the experience from the ground up. It streamlines many of the archaic systems that the likes of League of Legends and Dota were built on, allowing for fast paced competitive matches, while also adding innovative new features that can dramatically alter the gameplay.
The playable champions have diverse personalities and mechanics – such as being able to open portals, perform a Dance Dance Revolution-esque ultimate ability and an “Equilibrium” focused character who requires you to balance the use of your skills for maximum effect. Equipable items are now far more easy to identify and use, and augments can be used to give unique buffs to your heroes abilities.
It features unique arenas, including a special “Circuitball” arena, where players compete in 5v5 football-esque matches. Another gamechanger is the Blessings system, which allows teams to vote for heavenly blessings – such as summoning the Avos of War to turn the tides on a losing lane or summoning Avos of the Games to force a 5v5 gladiatorial battle in a shrinking arena.
Rather than just making yet another Dota/LoL clone, it’s clear that the devs of Circuits & Shields have taken a long hard look at the stagnating MOBA genre and decided to try to address some of the things that’s wrong with it. Their bold choices should make for some much more exciting and accessible MOBA experience for newcomers and pros. Signup for the Alpha to check it out.
