COVEN is a brutal and blood-splattered retro styled first person shooter where you seek bloody vengeance against a town of villagers who burned you at the stake.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year and a half ago, COVEN is a brutal 90’s styled FPS set in the 1600’s, that draws inspiration from Hexen, Blood and Timesplitters. The game stars with you being burned at the stake by a bunch of villagers who think you’re a child-murdering witch. You then dig your way out of your grave and exact your revenge on the villagers and the one who framed you.
The COVEN demo features two lage levels and a nice assortment of 1600’s weaponry to dispatch the villagers with – many of which can do some serious damage and leave your foes in piles of bloody chunks. You can also enter bullet-time for short periods and in a delightfully disgusting touch, you can the organs of slain enemies to replenish your health.
It’s a hell of a lot of fun and the level of gore is wonderfully over the top. It’s one thing to blast your enemy to smithereens with a double-barreled shotgun, but to eat their testicles afterwards is really rubbing salt in the wounds!
