Dicewood is a roguelike deckbuilder with a dark fairy tale aesthetic, where a desperate band of woodland creatures fight for survival.
In Dicewood, players guide cute litte forest animals through a twisted woodland, fleeing from a relentless hunter while facing ancient horrors and hostile tribes. As you make your way through the woods you encounter enemies and face them in battles, using your creatures as dice in turn-based combat.
The game’s unique dice-creature system allows players to collect and synergise various animals, each possessing distinct abilities that must be strategically deployed. As players build their deck and progress through the foreboding forest, every dice roll becomes a matter of life and death.
The narrative explores themes of sacrifice and companionship, as food scarcity forces difficult choices about which creatures must be left behind. Players must navigate this perilous journey, battling nightmarish foes while working toward the ultimate goal: reaching the river where their tiny survivors can begin anew.
It’s a great game, with a clever dice-based combat system that manages to be easily accessible and strategic. The artwork is excellent too, and you really do feel a little bit guilty when you have to sacrifice one of your critters! Highly recommended.
