Eastern Exorcist is a beautiful and brutally tough hand-drawn 2D side-scrolling action RPG with a focus on melee combat as a sword-wielding exorcist fights demons in a mystical Eastern world.
In Eastern Exorcist you take on the role of an exorcist who vanquishes demons with his sword. You fight your way through a beautifully animated world that’s filled with demonic monsters and powerful bosses that can kill you in just a few hits. You’ll need to master your sword skills to stand a chance of survival in this world.
The combat in Eastern Exorcist feels like a much faster and more spectacle-filled take on the Dark Souls style of combat. Your attacks use stamina and you can block and dodge, but you can also unleash powerful counter attacks and unique special abilities that are tied to different upgradeable magic arts that you can switch between. The first few enemies you meet aren’t too tough, but the bosses put up a real fight and you’ll need to learn their attacks and use some serious sword skills to defeat them.
Eastern Exorcist is brutally tough, so some may bounce off of it, but if you’re up for a challenge then there’s a lot to like. The hand drawn artwork is fantastic, the boss fights are very intense and the combat offers plenty of depth. A demon slaying Far East adventure well worth checking out.
