Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the Alpha sign up last month, Gestalt: Steam & Cinder is a narrative driven 2D action RPG that takes place in a lore-rich steampunk word. You take on the role of Aletheia, a blade for hire who helps keep the peace in a vast steam-powered city.
The Pre-Alpha demo allows you to explore a large chunk of the city, investigate a murder, get to know some of the citizens and test your fighting skills on a mission. It’s a narrative-heavy experience and you only really spend a small part of it fighting, but the combat really feels good, managing to be both skill-based and tactical.
Gestalt: Steam & Cinder is a very impressive project, not only for its jaw-dropping pixel art animation, but also the fascinating steampunk city it’s set in. It’s a place with a rich lore and interesting characters whose lives you can effect through your actions. Its a living place, a place that’s packed full of detail and a place you’ll want to get lost in for hours. Highly recommended.
