Hell is Us presents a visually spectacular third person action-adventure, that drops players into a mysterious world ravaged by civil war and supernatural forces.
Interestingly, Hell is Us eschews traditional gaming conveniences like maps and quest markers, instead encouraging players to rely on their instincts for exploration. The game’s combat system focuses on melee weapons specifically designed to battle otherworldly creatures known as chimeras, which are immune to modern weaponry. Players must master the use of traditional arms like swords, spears, and axes, while strategically deploying a drone companion to survive encounters.
Set in a semi-open world, the narrative unfolds through innovative storytelling and level design, allowing players to chart their own course through the devastated landscape. The game challenges players to uncover the truth behind the supernatural calamity while navigating both human conflict and monstrous threats in this atmospheric and unforgiving environment.
The Hell is Us demo features a sizeable chunk of gameplay and really impresses with its visuals, environmental design and challenging combat. The removal of maps and quest markers really makes a difference too – helping to immerse you in the world rather than just mindlessly running towards quest markers. Hell is Us is shaping up to be quite heavenly.
