Holstin is a very cool perspective-shifting psychological survival horror game set in a 90’s Poilsh town that’s infested with a mysterious light-phobic ooze.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer in 2023, Holstin sees you searching for a missing friend in a Polish town that’s been overrun with an infectious ooze that’s turning people into zombie-like monsters. It has old school survival horror gameplay (puzzles, combat, limited inventory, ammo management, etc.), but the visual style and perspective-shifting gameplay makes a huge difference.
While exploring the town the game is viewed from a rotatable isometric viewpoint, but when you need to blast an enemy the perspective seamlessly switches to a third-person over-the-shoulder view. This is especially handy as enemies have bulbous glowing weak-spots that you need to target for maximum damage.
The new Holstin demo features a large chunk of gameplay, taking around 1-2 hours to play through, lots of characters to meet, a large section of the town to explore, full (Polish) voice acting, and even a little driving gameplay. It’s a very impressive game with tons of style, an interesting story and lots of clever touches. A fun fresh take on old school survival horror. Highly recommended.
