Hypnagogia is a PS1 Styled LSD: Dream Emulator inspired adventure where you venture into beautiful dreams and surreal nightmares that are based on real dreams.
Created for the LSDJAM 2020 game jam, Hypnagogia is a stylish and strange PS1 styled adventure that draws inspiration from LSD: Dream Emulator, Mario 64 and Silent Hill. In the game you venture into a series of different dreamworlds, each one with a very different theme and each based on real dream journal recordings. Within each dreamworld you’ll chat to characters, discover secrets, solve puzzles and do a little platforming as you attempt to locate a large red crystal hidden in each one of them. Collect all eight crystals and you may be able to wake-up.
Taking just over an hour to play through, it’s a fantastic little game. A lot of work has clearly gone into constructing Hypnagogia’s beautiful and bizarre dreamworlds. Each one is beautifully crafted and is a real joy to explore. They all feel handcrafted and they’re packed full great little details, interesting characters and fun surprises to discover.
It’s a glorious retro styled experience where you never know what to expect next as you flit from dream to dream. The only thing you can be sure about is that you won’t want to wake up from this delightfully surreal adventure! Highly recommended.
