ICONS: Combat Arena is a slick looking new Smash Bros-style platform fighter that promises lightning fast, spectacle filled combat in a that’ll really test your fighting skills.
ICONS: Combat Arena is being developed by a team of devs who’ve previously worked at Riot, Blizzard, Bioware, Sony and Twitch. The team are working alongside talented members of the platform fighter community with an aim of delivering a responsive, skill based combat system that’s as fun to watch as it is to play.
Five different fighters have been unveiled so far, with more to come and each one sporting a unique playstyle – such as grappling, close quarters brawling and long range blasting. It has its sights firmly set on the hardcore platformer fighter market that Smash Bros has dominated for so long – so much so that the first gameplay trailer for it was released at EVO before the Melee finals.
It’ll take a lot to topple Smash Bros off its throne, but it’s a nice looking game with a lot of talent behind it and a focus on delivering a pure, skill based combat experience. An Open Beta is coming this Fall, but if you sign up you’ll get first access to the Beta, unlock an exclusive skin and be able to reserve your username.
