In My Shadow is a touching and inventive narrative-driven puzzle platforming adventure where you manipulate 3D objects to cast 2D shadows for your character to use.
In In My Shadow you journey through the childhood memories of a young woman called Bella. These memories explore the changing relationships in her family as she grew up and you unlock them by completing a series of short platforming levels that are played out as shadows cast on a wall.
For the most part the actual platforming in In My Shadow is fairly simple, but only if you manage to arrange the shadows in the level first! You do this by switching to a 3D view of the room where you can grab and move around boxes and furniture. These then cast differently sized shadows dependent on their relation to the light source and when you’re happy with your chives you can snap back to the 2D shadow view and try to beat the level.
The demo build features a good selection of levels and tells the touching story of Bella and her relationship with her adorable little dog. You can play with a control pad, but a mouse and keyboard is definitely a better experience as it allows you a little more finesse when rearranging the objects.
The big head art style is a little odd, but other than that In My Shadow is a very promising game. The shadow manipulating is a clever concept and the level design is very inventive. Also, the narrative is particularly touching and Bella’s little doggie is a delight!
