INCANTAMENTUM is a narrative-driven folk horror point and click adventure where you uncover dark mysteries in a strange rural town in Victorian England.
Currently in development by Cloak and Dagger Games (creators of The Terrible Old Man and Football Game), INCANTAMENTUM is a beautifully animated pixel art point and click horror adventure inspired by real English folklore. In the game you take on the role of a young woman called Thomasina Bateman whose profession involves investigating ancient burial sites. After receiving a tip from a mysterious stranger she sets out to the rural village of Belway, where she finds that the locals aren’t quite as welcoming as she’d hoped…
The INCANTAMENTUM demo build takes around 20 minutes to play through and really impresses with its high quality pixel art animation, eerie atmosphere and interesting characters. Thomasina is a great protagonist who doesn’t suffer fools gladly and the town of Belway is a very interesting setting that’s well fleshed out and definitely feels like it’s somewhere some weird sh*t could go down.
It’s shaping up to be a fantastic slice of old school point and click adventuring that feels fondly reminiscent of classics like Shadow of the Comet and Gabriel Knight (and there’s a definite Wicker Man vibe to the rural setting). By the end of the demo you’ll be dying to find out more of what’s going on in the town of Belway and what the hell is going on with that cat!
