Incredible Mandy is a stylish Ico-esque third person single player cooperative platforming adventure that sees you working alongside a giant robot to make your way through a floating fantasy world and save your sister.
Players may bounce off Incredible Mandy during the first 10 minutes as the controls are a little clunky and the combat is pretty basic – however once you start to get to grips with the fact that it’s a puzzle adventure and not an action platformer then things start to fall into place and the game gets really interesting…
You have the ability to summon Light Swords, but their main purpose isn’t for combat – you use them to activate switches, open gates and aid the movement of a giant robot. They allow for some very creative puzzle design – especially as you can stab them into walls, objects and floors to chain them together. The robot is more of an automated machine than a sentient character, but it really comes in handy as you progress, moving platforms and shifting objects so you can pass.
Incredible Mandy could do with slightly faster/more fluid character animation, but once you get to grips with it then you’re treated to a very well crafted Ico-esque puzzle platforming adventure. The art style is beautiful and the puzzle design is very creative, often requiring you to think outside the box as you make your way through its mysterious floating world. Highly recommended.
