Insurgency: Sandstorm is now in open Beta, so everyone can check out it’s hardcore tactical multiplayer military FPS combat that strives for immersion and realism, while still being accessible and fun to play.
To celebrate its upcoming release on the 12th of December, Insurgency: Sandstorm is holding an open Beta weekend, starting today and running through to Monday December 10th. We’ve covered Insurgency: Sandstorm previously on Alpha Beta Gamer during the closed Alpha sign up and it’s a very impressive game which offers fast paced multiplayer military combat with an attention to detail and feature list that could easily make it a CoD killer.
Insurgency: Sandstorm features multiple co-op and PvP game modes, all of which require teamwork and skill to survive – some even only allow teammates to respawn once objectives are completes, so you can be a real hero if you’re the last one alive. To keep everyone on a level playing field all the weapons and attachments are unlocked right from the start. There are multiple player classes, each of which has unique guns and equipment that you can choose from to add to your loadout allowing you to tailor them to your own play style.
The guns are very satisfying to shoot, and a lot of thought has gone into their reloading mechanics and the bullet ballistics, with bullets having varying amounts of penetration through different materials and dropping over large distances. The UI is also very uncluttered, with you not even getting an aiming reticle in the center of the screen, so you have to pay attention to where the actual gun is pointing.
Everything in Insurgency: Sandstorm has clearly been built from the ground up by fans of military shooters for fans of military shooters. It features the sort of fast and fluid movement and and easily accessible close quarters military combat that you’d find in CoD, but with a whole host of innovative features that makes it feel like a true evolution of the genre. A military shooter that’s not dumbed down for the masses but will certainly appeal to the masses.
