Island Getaway is a very weird little retro Atari styled Eldritch horror adventure where you go to a luxury island resort that’s filled with giant crab monsters!
Created for the gm48 game jam, Island Getaway is a retro horror adventure that sees you and a couple of pals visiting a luxury island resort and spa for some much needed rest and relaxation. However, although it has palm-tree lined beaches lapped by a cool blue sea and some high quality spa facilities, there’s something not quite right with the island. The staff are strange, you keep catching glimpses of giant crabs and your friends have started acting a little weird…
Taking around 10 minutes to play through, Island Getaway is a great little horror game that does an excellent job of remaining true(ish) to its charming retro Atari trappings while still managing to be very creepy as the horror unfolds. The retro pixel art and sound design are excellent and the writing is particularly well done, with all three endings being satisfyingly horrific. Highly recommended.
