Jackal – Beta Demo

Jackal is an ultraviolent Hotline Miami inspired top-down shooter where you and Anubis, the God of Death, commit drug-infused massacres in 1970s Vegas hotels.

Currently in development by Michał Marcinkowski (creator of Soldat, Maniac and Butcher), Jackal is a brutal top-down shooter inspired by Hotline Miami, OTXO, I Am Your Beast, John Wick, Pulp Fiction, Fear and Loathing In Vegas, Goodfellas and Cowboy Bebop. In the game you embark on a drug-fuelled rampage at the behest of Anubis, the God of Death.

The levels in Jackal are randomly generated, but also are made up of distinct rooms and events. So each playthrough is different, but the levels feel more hand-crafted than traditional procedurally generated ones. Combat is fast, fluid and brutal, with executions, plenty of weapons and lots of physics-based carnage. You also have a dash ability and unlockable special supernatural abilities provided to you by Anubis.

The demo is pretty impressive, with a nice selection of levels to play though (with extra optional modifiers) and some very high quality cutscenes (featuring the vocal work of I Am Your Beast’s Matthew Curtis). It’s a lot of fun, and perfect if you fancy a bit of super-stylish high-octane ultraviolence. Highly recommended.
