Jungle Rot is a classic Resident Evil inspired fixed camera survival horror game where a US Marine attempts to escape from a toxin-filled jungle in Vietnam.
In Jungle Rot you step into the boots of Sgt. John Crackhorn – a US Marine who’s fighting in the Vietnam War. The US government has just released an experimental toxin into a jungle, with a hope of turning the tide of the war. However, the toxin turns people into flesh eating zombies and your chopper has just crashed in the jungle.
The Jungle Rot Preview is a short full game that’s essentially a proof of concept for a possible larger game in the future. It takes around 45 minutes to play through and has a nice selection of weapons, enemy types and secrets. It does a great job of nailing the classic PS1 Resident Evil vibe, complete with the (deliberately) cheesy dialogue and even a live action intro scene. It makes for an excellent retro survival horror that manages to be scary while not taking itself too seriously. Highly recommended.
