Kart Souls: Prepare to Ride Edition is a funny mash up of Mario Kart and Dark Souls, which sees you driving your kart through various deadly dungeons based on the world of Dark Souls.
Kart Souls: Prepare to Ride Edition isn’t a racing game, it’s a Soulsian dungeon crawler where you drive around on a kart. The dark fantasy world of Dark Souls has been recreated semi-accurately with bonfires, souls to collect, player invasions, some familiar looking areas and kart-based enemies to deal with.
It’s very much a tongue-in-cheek recreation of the Dark Souls world and there are some great little touches and gags throughout. Kart Souls’ version of Ornstein and Smough is very funny and your kart even has a stamina bar, which means that you can only drive fast for short bursts (which is a little irritating but it is a funny touch).
The ending is a little abrupt, but it’s a fun ride and a great little karting parody of one of gaming’s greatest franchises. Ride or die? More like ride and die!
