Mind Scanners is a retro-futuristic Sci-Fi psychiatrist simulation game where you analyze, diagnose and “normalise” patients in a dystopian metropolis where humanity is highly dependent on rapidly developing technology.
Currently in development by The Outer Zone (creator of the excellent Fleshworms, The Goat Crone and Cyborg Seppuku, Mind Scanners sees you taking on the role of a Mind Scanner who works in a dystopian city called The Structure. The city is currently enduring a boom of technological innovation due to a meteor that crashed nearby 40 years ago. The meteor contained a material called Zygnoka, which they were able to harness and use as a power-source for new technology. However, the emergent tech is immediately tested on the public as soon as it is invented, which can have some unfortunate side effects.
As a Mind Scanner you are tasked with analyzing, diagnosing and treating the various patients that come to you, often with issues caused by the new technology. There are lots of diagnosis and treatment devices to operate, and you’ll even be able to use currency and science points to develop new devices. You’ll face some difficult choices and ethical dilemmas as you deal with patients and try to keep a balance within The Structure. You’ll also have to gain the trust of those in charge of The Structure if you ever want to see your daughter again.
Mind Scanners will be the first Steam release for The Outer Zone and if you’ve played any of the previous games then you’ll know how unique and well fleshed out the world of The Structure is. It’s beautifully drawn surreal dystopian setting is a fascinating place to spend some time in and Mind Scanners really looks set to up the ante.
