Neon City Riders is a stylish and beautifully animated 2D pixel art action adventure where you become a masked vigilante who must fight four super-powered gangs in a neon-filled post-cyberpunk city.
Successfully Kickstarted back in 2017 and now nearing a full release, Neon City Riders takes place on the dangerous streets of a post-cyberpunk city. You take on the role of Rick, a masked vigilante who aims to take down the four gangs that run the city, with a little help from an old mentor called Evergray.
The demo build of Neon City Riders takes around 20 minutes to play through and serves as a nice introduction to the game world and your abilities. The pixel art animation is fantastic and the world is packed full of great little details. As you progress you unlock four new abilities that allow you to dodge attacks and access new areas, much like in a metroidvania.
It’s a very promising game, full of interesting characters and a fascinating neon-filled world. The only issue at the moment is that the combat feels a little basic, with no combos or alternate weapons – you simply mash the attack button and dodge/block when necessary. Hopefully the full game will have some unlockables that make the combat a bit more engaging.
