Beta sign ups are now live for NHL 18, EA’s latest instalment of their yearly ice hockey franchise with some great new features that looks set to make it their best iteration yet.
NHL 18 looks set to offer a lot of the same officially licensed ice hockey action as last year, but with some crucial new additions and gameplay tweaks, such as new Creative Attack controls, the Defensive Skill Stick, better AI, a fast-paced arcade style 3v3 “NHL THREES” mode and the ability to create your own 32nd NHL team. The new Creative Attack and Defensive Skill Abilities look set to add the most differences to the actual gameplay, allowing players to pull of a range of new creative dekes and more precise ways to counter them with poke check targeting, extended pokes and controlled stick sweeps.
The new gameplay tweaks and the ability to shake up the league with your own 32nd NHL team will likely satisfy the hardcore NHL faithful, but the 3v3 NHL THREES mode may be the killer feature that will draw casual players in. It promises a faster paced, more arcadey experience with faster ice, bigger hits, less rules and more goals. It’ll even feature its own separate campaign mode that sees you journeying through different regions and taking on teams, unlocking new teammates, jerseys logos and other cool rewards along the way.
It’s a very promising instalment of the NHL franchise that looks set to offer plenty to hardcore players and casual players alike. Lace up your skates and sign up for the Beta, we’ll see you on the ice!
