Olija is a beautifully animated pixel art action platforming adventure where you use a legendary harpoon with teleportation powers to fight your way through a strange world inspired by sailors’ legends and Asian fantasy.
In Olija you take on the role of Faraday, an explorer who ends up shipwrecked on a mysterious island inhabited by a hostile tribe and some demonic monsters. You’re pretty nimble and you’re pretty skilled with a rapier and a crossbow, so you can hold your own against the enemies you meet. It’s your magical harpoon that really comes in handy though.
Your harpoon can be thrown and recalled at the touch of a button, and if it sticks into an enemy or an object you can instantly teleport to where it is. This not only looks cool, but allows for some flowing combat and allows you to access out of reach areas.
The Olija demo build takes around 20 minutes to play through and really impresses with its high quality pixel art animation, fluid combat and intriguing narrative. The harpoon is a lot of fun to use and the inky black monsters are a joy to see in motion. A harpoon hurling swashbuckling supernatural adventure well worth taking a stab at.
