One Way Home is an INSIDE/Little Nightmares-esque cinematic horror puzzle platforming game where a young boy has a nightmarish trip home following a bus crash.
Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer during the closed Beta sign up, in One Way Home a young boy called Jimmy is returning from school one evening when the school bus is involved in a crash. When Jimmy comes to his hometown is in disrepair and shadowy monsters lurk in the streets. You’ll need to use stealth and puzzle solving as you make your way home.
As you explore the streets you’ll need to evade monsters and solve puzzles. There are multiple routes through certain areas, often requiring you to use different aspects of gameplay, such as stealth, puzzle solving and platforming. There are also animated graffiti drawings that help unravel the mystery of what’s going on.
It could probably do with removing some of the kid’s dialogue (as a lot of it isn’t necessary), but other than that is a very promising take on the genre. The atmosphere and environmental design are excellent, the shadow monsters are very creepy and there’s a nice amount of thought that’s gone into the multi-route level design. It turns out there is actually more than one way home, but it’s a lot of fun nonetheless!
