Our Lady of the Drowned Lake, Zero Reporter is a creepy fishing adventure where an amateur reporter discovers the dark secrets hiding below a mysterious lake.
Created for the GMTK Game Jam 2022, Our Lady of the Drowned Lake is a short horror fishing adventure with a touch of RNG, which sees you sailing about a lake and chancing your luck as you catch fish and other strange objects. In the game you take on the role of a reporter who’s keen to learn about the folklore that surrounds the lake. You were supposed to meet a guide who was going to show you around and discuss the folklore, but he’s not around as there have been some tragic boat accidents lately. You can still take a bout out and see what you can catch though…
Our Lady of the Drowned Lake delivers an eerie and unsettling experience during its short 10 minute play time. The fishing mechanics are simple, but functional and the lore that you learn from each of the objects you catch is very interesting. Unfortunately at the moment your choices at the end of the game don’t really have an impact (due to the devs running low on time during the jam), but it’s a fun concept and the devs are keen to expand on it in the future. It would certainly be nice to return to the lake in the future as no doubt there are more dark secrets lurking in its depths.
