Our Secret Below is a dark and unsettling first person horror game with surreal elements, where a young woman attempts to escape from a basement that she’s been locked in by a man who’s obsessed with her.
Currently in development by DarkStone Digital (creator of the excellent The Mortuary Assistant), in Our Secret Below you take on the role of Nia, a young woman who wakes up chained to a wall in a basement. She’s lost her memory, but it seems she’s been kidnapped by a man who’s obsessed with her, and must now find some way to escape before he kills her. At its core Our Secret Below is a room escape adventure, but it’s a narrative-driven experience with a surprising amount of depth. You’ll have to understand your captor to be able to escape him!
The current build of Our Secret Below takes around 20 minutes to play through. It’s a very well crafted experience that instills you with a feeling of terror the moment you wake up and see you’re chained to a wall. The main puzzles are fairly easy to crack, but if you look carefully, you’ll notice there’s a lot more to discover if you dig deeper, with several secrets to discover that give you a few clues about what’s really going on. There’s definitely a lot more to it than some nutter locking you in a basement. The full game will expand on this more with lots more optional secrets to discover and multiple endings. It’s a fantastic start to what promises to be a very dark and mature take on the room escape genre. Highly recommended.
