Paladins: Champions of the Realm is a fun first person shooter from Hi-Rez Studios (developers of SMITE, Global Agenda and Tribes) that blends Team Fortress-style team based combat with MOBA-esque heroes, a collectible card system and deep character customisation.
It only takes a few seconds of play to draw comparisons to Overwatch, but considering a lot of the gameplay elements in both games were present in one of Hi-Rez Studios previous released (Global Agenda), we’d say dismissing Paladins as clone is a bit rich. Either way it’s a fun game, with fast and strategic team based combat, lots of customisation options a vibrant fantasy world populated by mech-riding-goblins, mystical elves and jet packing dragons.
As well as a nice selection of fun characters with unique attributes, players can further customise the way they play by collecting unique cards that they can use to build decks. These cards can radically alter the way the characters play and can be a great asset in counteracting your enemies strategies.
Paladins: Champions of the Realm is an impressive shooter, that brings a lot of tactical depth to the FPS genre. Overwatch fans will find a lot to like here, and it also has a couple of major advantages over Blizzards offering – it’s on Steam and it’s 100% free to play (only cosmetic items are locked behind a paywall). So join in now for some fabulous first person fantasy combat.
