Project Amalthea is an online top-down shooter that allows for massive multiplayer space battles and a diverse array of career paths as you strive to make a living for yourself in a mineral-rich asteroid belt near Jupiter.
In Project Amalthea players can choose to become a prospector, a space pirate, a merchant, an explorer or to help maintain law an order in a thriving new mining colony that’s sprung up around Jupiter’s moon Amalthea. You can form guilds and join five different factions, each of which are compatible with different play styles – such as the Negotiants who are formed via a huge alliance of trading companies or the North Petroleum Company who strive to maintain law and order in the region.
There’s a wide variety of upgrade options, with 50+ ship modules, dozens of hulls, a massive amount of skin combinations and 12 talent trees for you character that contain 100+ unique skills. There’s a nice selection of weaponry too, that each have their own unique mechanics and uses in battle – such as beam weapons that can penetrate shields, repair drones or rockets that cause high explosive damage. You’ll need to master those weapons, as even if you choose a respectable life of prospecting or trading, there’s a good chance you’ll run into someone who hasn’t! Die and you’ll lose all the stuff that you’re carrying, but there is one place that you’ll be safe – your own space station, that you can upgrade as you progress, adding workshops, assembly lines and automated mining drones.
