Project Wario Land is a fun retro 2D platforming adventure that plays like a blend of Wario Land 3 and Super Mario 64, with large open multi-goal levels, lots of secret areas and special costumes to unlock that allow you to access them.
In Project Wario Land you take control of Wario as he runs, jumps and bashes his way through large open levels that are packed full of fun stuff to discover. As in Super Mario 64, each level features starts in different locations and collecting them completes the level. Collecting stars allows you to unlock more levels (much like in Super Mario 64’s Peach’s Castle hub world) but the coins you collect are used very differently to traditional Mario games.
There is a shop you can visit in Project Wario Land to purchase new costumes for Wario. The costumes not only look cool, but they also give Wario special abilities which allow him to access hidden areas in the levels, allowing you to collect more stars and collect special Heart Stones which increase your health.
The current build of Project Wario Land features six large levels (most of which have four stars to collect), six unlockable costumes and one boss fight. It’s a lot of fun, particularly because the costumes and the multiple stars to collect allow you to see new areas of the levels each time you visit them. A very impressive fan game with creative world design and lots of great new ideas of its own. Highly recommended.
