Refactor is a physics based open world puzzle platforming adventure that could perhaps be best described as a “Tetris metroidvania”, as you control little Tetris-shaped pieces who try to find their place in an unbending society.
Refactor takes place in a world where thousands of puzzle pieces are created every day for the sole purpose of playing “The Game”. The puzzle pieces have to be perfect, so any that don’t stand up to the rigorous testing procedures are shunned from society and decommissioned. You take on the role of a some such misfits as they navigate the puzzle-filled world and try to find somewhere they can fit in within the games hostile environment.
In Refactor you can not only move and restructure your character to perform new skills, but you can also shape the environment. The world is made out of Tetris shaped structures and you can rearrange them to allow you to access new areas and discover the many secrets hidden within its depths.
It’s been in development for a while (it was originally planned for a 2016 release), but thankfully Refactor is back on track and due for release this year. It’s a great concept and the way you can shift the environment around should make for some creative puzzle design. Sign up now to see if you can slot into the Beta!
