Sense 不祥的预感: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story is a beautifully drawn Anime styled horror puzzle adventure where choices matter as you piece together the stories of 14 lost souls and learn the truth of your own family’s curse.
Drawing inspiration from Clock Tower, Fatal Frame and traditional Cantonese folklore, Sense 不祥的预感: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story follows the story of a young woman called Mei, as she slips into a strange alternate reality (and perhaps an alternate time) where she finds herself trapped in an apartment block inhabited by the ghosts of its previous occupants. Mei will question her reality (and her cybernetic eye implants) as she figures out how to appease these ghosts, while also unraveling the dark secret of her own family’s curse.
We’ve featured two previous builds of Sense 不祥的预感: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story on Alpha Beta Gamer (most recently back in May 2018) and the Anime styled cyberpunk artwork has always been stunning, really helping to bring its dystopian cyberpunk world to life. This latest build fleshes out the world even more and features around an hour’s worth of gameplay, ending with you vanquishing the first of the 14 ghosts.
The artwork and world building of Sense 不祥的预感: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story is fantastic. The first few areas (the streets and the nightclub) are full of life and really help give you a feel of the seedy, dystopian cyberpunk city Mei lives in. There’s a stark contrast between the busy neon-filled streets and the grimy, decaying alternate reality you end up in. So much so, that you really start to yearn for some neon lighting and a friendly face as you delve deeper into the mysterious apartment block.
There are a few niggles with the current build – such as an awkward looking run animation and not being able to pick up objects until you need them (which causes a lot of unnecessary backtracking). It’s a very impressive game though, with a great sense of atmosphere, gorgeous artwork, interesting puzzles and an intriguing story. A beautifully drawn supernatural horror adventure set in a fascinating lore-rich cyberpunk world. Highly recommended.
