Shadow of the Mask is a beautifully animated point and click adventure set in a dystopian retro-futuristic world full of robots, aliens and superheroes, where the use of superpowers is punishable by law.
Shadow of the Mask takes place in a time after the Golden Age of Superheroes, where they are actually hunted down and punished by laws that were created by former supervillains. You play Alanis, a detective who works for Emerald City’s Department of Superheroic Crime – a special division of the law that investigates crimes that may have been committed by a superhero. You and your partner will investigate a series of interconnected superhero-related crimes that will unravel some of the many dark secrets that Emerald City is hiding.
The hand drawn artwork in Shadow of the Mask is fantastic, packed full of style and attention to detail as you explore the grungy streets of Emerald City. The puzzles are well designed and satisfyingly challenging, while the citizens you meet are well written and full of character – especially Alanis who is instantly likeable for her roguish charms.
It’s a very impressive game, with fantastic artwork, interesting characters and an intriguing post-superpower Sci-Fi narrative. A remarkable adventure that feels like you’ve stepped into the pages of a dark and gritty comic book. Highly recommended.
