Side Effects is a tense turn-based medical trial-based game of Russian roulette where desperate patients are forced to consume mysterious pills with unpredictable consequences.
In Side Effects you face off against a rival in a 1v1 medical trial. Each round you are given a selection of pills – some may aid you, some may alter your resistance and some may kill you. A core element of the game revolves around managing your resistance meter – a vital statistic that, when depleted, means death.
Each round presents a new selection of unmarked medications, turning every choice into a potential last decision. Between these harrowing rounds, you can select experimental treatments to tilt odds in your favor. Will you choose a vaccine to counter toxins, or perhaps mouth clamps to force a rival to eat a pill?
It’s a great take on the Russian roulette formula, with some clever mechanics (such as the Resistance meter) that adds a nice layer of strategy to the game. It may be a tense game of pill-popping Russian roulette, but the main side effect is fun!
