SIREN – Beta Demo (DOOM Total Conversion Mod)

SIREN is an incredible DOOM total conversion mod that draws inspiration from Aliens and F.E.A.R., set in a habitation facility filled with monsters and an unkillable black smoke entity.

Previously featured on Alpha Beta Gamer a year ago, in SIREN you are a covert operative who has been sent to investigate a habitation facility built beneath the surface of Mars. The site has been dark for decades and apparently “did not exist” until a few hours ago. It’s your job to see what the hell is going on in there (preferably without dying in the process).

The current SIREN demo features three huge multi-route maps and takes 2-3 hours to play through. The levels are packed full of secrets, in-jokes and easter eggs, and it even has a fully fleshed out story, NPCs and multiple optional side-quests to complete. There’s a nice selection of Aliens inspired weaponry, which you can even be upgraded at special upgrade terminals.

Those guns will come in handy too, because the enemies in SIREN are horrifying and deadly. There are various types of enemy to deal with, but the most dangerous is the SIREN itself – an unkillable black smoke monster that roams the facility. You can shoot it to stall it for a few seconds and you can even use it to clear out large groups of enemies, but your best course of action is to run, trap it or find a deactivation switch to shut it down for a while.

It’s a remarkable mod that looks incredible, plays beautifully and is so packed with optional content that it would take days to find everything. It’s also very scary and you are constantly dreading what’s round the next corner (or the chilling sound of the SIREN). Doom mods don’t get much better than this. Highly recommended.

Note: You’ll need an official DOOM 2 .WAD file and GZDoom to play this mod (so you need to own a copy of DOOM 2). Once unzipped, copy the DOOM 2 .WAD file into the GZDoom folder then select the Siren.pk3 file and drag it on-top of the GZDoom.exe (customize your controls before playing).
