SOMBRAS: negative frames is a first-person narrative game with light horror elements where you follow Shiomi, a Japanese-Spanish photography student who becomes trapped in a dark mirror version of her 2000s Japanese town.
In SOMBRAS: negative frames you play as Shiomi Alterio, living with her father after her parents’ divorce forced her to leave her European life behind. One night she’s engulfed by a dark dimension filled with familiar streets, hungry shadows, and alternate versions of herself. You’ll help Shiomi escape by photographing unusual sights, surviving unsettling encounters, and reuniting fragments of her broken psyche.
Befriend alternate selves, evade repressed terrors, collect occult trinkets, and unlock mysterious doors. Navigate atmospheric twisted streets while developing film rolls to gain inspiration for camera upgrades and uncover secrets of this liminal world exploring youth, art, mixed identity, and family dysfunction. Sign up for the playtest to see how it develops.
