Sonic Drift 16-bit is a retro kart racing game where Sonic and pals (and enemies) face off in 16-bit Mode 7 styled races.
A remake of the SEGA Game Gear original, Sonic Drift 16-bit upgrades the game to a full-on Mario Kart SNES style racer. There are seven characters to choose from (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic, Amy and Fang), each with their own unique abilities. The current demo also features three tracks – Balloon Panic (Green/Emerald Hill), Casino Night and Sandopolis.
As it is a 16-bit racer it does obviously have its limitations, but it’s a very impressive reimagining of the original that’s dripping with nostalgic charm. On your marks, get set, gotta go fast!
