SSR Wives: The Murder Of My Winter Crush is an upcoming retro survival horror game that blends classic genre elements with visual novel storytelling.
Set in a town that time forgot, in SSR Wives: The Murder Of My Winter Crush players navigate through atmospheric locations including snowy forests, an abandoned missile silo, and a haunting clown carnival. The game features traditional survival horror mechanics like tank controls, fixed camera angles, and grid inventory management, while incorporating relationship-building elements. Players must balance resource management and combat decisions with character interactions that affect multiple possible endings.
The demo doesn’t really have much of the romantic visual novel inspired storytelling elements, but it does have plenty of old school Silent Hill-esque survival horror gameplay. It features a nice mixture of melee and gun-based combat, puzzle-solving elements and environmental exploration as you explore a very strange apartment block.
The camera could do with a little work (especially in the forest area), but aside from that, it’s a very promising game with excellent environmental design, tense enemy encounters and tons of atmosphere. It’ll be fascinating to see how the romantic visual novel inspired elements come into the mix as it’ll make for a very unique take on the genre. Highly recommended.
